  • SCP AmeriCorps encourages collaboration with community partners, organizations, and individuals to understand the prevalent social, structural, and systemic issues in local rural communities.

Direct service opportunities invite students and local and national civic-minded volunteers to actively engage in promoting social change through community-based initiatives in rural Appalachia.

The South Cumberland Plateau AmeriCorps Project is a direct service initiative with some capacity-building opportunities that engage our community through hunger relief, financial literacy, opioid prevention and recovery, tutoring, and education. Service members receive a living stipend during their service and are eligible for the Segal Education Award at the end of their volunteer term.

  • The Economic Mobility Intake and Program coordinator is a service position through AmeriCorps and the South Cumberland Plateau AmeriCorps Project. The coordinator will be tasked with outreach, intake, scheduling, and some deployment of BetterFi's various financial assistance, financial inclusion, and economic mobility programs.

Outreach will involve identifying and engaging with community stakeholders and potential program partners to develop intake pipelines for BetterFi's programs; intake will involve assisting individuals or organizations in navigating and completing applications for assistance with regard to BetterFi's programs; scheduling will involve scheduling free income tax assistance sessions or other financial assistance sessions, and deployment will involve leading classes or individuals in financial coaching programming.

The living allowance for full-time service is $16,502.00, and successful completion of a full-time term qualifies the service member for a Segal Education Award of $6,895 — part time or shorter term positions receive a smaller living allowance and qualify for smaller education awards.

Health benefits that assist with the costs of healthcare are also available through AmeriCorps.
